Specializing in School & Applied Child Psychology

The Division of Applied Psychology offers a Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) on-campus program specializing in School and Applied Child Psychology. The Master of Education (MEd) is course-based and delivered online.

Our programs prepare you to work as a school psychologist or develop specialized knowledge of school and applied child psychology for use in school or community settings. Course content for the MSc, MEd and PhD programs follows the accreditation guidelines created by National Association of School Psychologists' standards for training.

Deadline for applications to all programs is December 15

Master's in School and Applied Psychology

The Master's programs in School and Applied Child Psychology have been developed in alignment with accreditation and training standards for programs of Psychology.  They adhere to the scientist-practitioner model, which emphasizes the interaction of research, theory, and practice.  The goal is to develop researchers and professionals who use research to critically inform practice and conducted applied and theoretical research relevant to the practice of School and Applied Child Psychology.  Students are expected to gain broad knowledge in the areas encompassed by School and Applied Child Psychology and develop a firm foundation in the philosophy of science and scientific methodology.  Students are taught to critically evaluate and apply research through the substantive courses.

The MSc (on-campus)degree in school and applied child psychology is a thesis-based program.

The MEd (online) degree in school and applied child psychology consists of 18 one-semester courses combined with extensive field experience in school or community settings.

The PhD (on-campus) degree in school and applied child psychology is a four year thesis-based degree that will lead you to a career in research and teaching or professional practice. The PhD program engages scholars in academic research directly relevant to their professional practice in an established research community of academics and students.

What is a School Psychologist?

School psychologists suport the academic and social-emotional development of children and adolescents. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create supportive learning environments and to strengthen connections between home and school. School psychologists provide such comprehensive support services as: assessment, consultation, evaluation, intervention, prevention, and research planning.
