Educational Technology Entrance Award

Value: $1000
Application deadline: Ongoing

Open to first year graduate students who will be enrolled in the Master of Education program in the Graduate Division of Education Research, with a specialization in educational technology. Successful candidates, at the time of tenure, will be registered either full or part-time, in either an on-campus or distance-learning program. Open to graduate students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Selection will be based on academic merit, relevant experience, work history, and faculty expertise.


Faculty of Education Endowment Graduate Scholarship

Value: $4,000
Application deadline: February 1

The Faculty of Education Endowment Graduate Scholarship is open to students entering, or enrolled in a doctoral program but who have not yet completed candidacy examinations, in the Faculty of Education. At time of tenure, recipients must be registered full-time. Selection will be based on the quality of the applicant’s graduate work: career achievements; publications; evidence of scholarly achievements; a review of his or her graduate application portfolio; and the applicant’s demonstrated potential to establish a career as a faculty member in a university.


Gallagher-Galileo Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Value: $35,000
Application deadline: May 31

The Gallagher-Galileo Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Fellowship is open to exceptional new scholars to work with the Galileo Educational Network to consolidate their research training, develop and initiate original research in information and communication technology implementation, and participate in and contribute to the activities of the Galileo Educational Network.


Gifted Studies Graduate Scholarship

Value: $500
Application deadline: May 30

Open to students who are registered full-time in a graduate program in the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Specialization offered through the Graduate Division of Educational Research. The recipient will be involved in graduate study related to the education of gifted children and must hold a permanent teaching certificate in the Province of Alberta. The recipient must be a resident of Alberta. Selection will be based on academic merit.


Richard Hirabayashi Graduate Scholarship

Value: $1,000
Application deadline: February 1

The Richard Hirabayashi Graduate Scholarship is open to all graduate degree students focusing on early childhood education, ethnic diversity, human rights, or multicultural and First Nation issues.


Hopewell Teaching English as a Second Language Graduate Scholarship

The Teaching English as a Second Language Graduate Scholarship is open to students enrolled full-time in a Master's or doctoral program in the Graduate Division of Educational Research, with a specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language.


Annette LaGrange Graduate Scholarship

Value: $1,250
Application Deadline: February 1

Open to students who are registered full-time in a thesis-based program in the Graduate Division of Educational Research. Candidates must be focusing on teacher education in one of the following specializations: Educational Leadership, Educational Technology, Second Language Teaching, Curriculum Teaching and Learning, Teaching English as a Second Language, or Interpretive Studies in Education.


Dr. Michael C. Pyryt Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Value: $1,000
Application Deadline: May 1

This award is open to students registered in a thesis-based program in the Graduate Division of Educational Research in Gifted Education specialization.


Christiane Adèle Roy Scholarship

Value: $5,000
Application deadline: February 1

The Christiane Adèle Roy Scholarship is awarded to a student entering or enrolled in the Faculty of Education, in the Workplace and Adult Learning specialization. Candidates at the time of tenure will be registered as graduate students. The award will be based on academic and scholarly achievement. Candidates will also be adjudicated on the basis of their contributions to the community. Preference will be given to graduate students whose work positively impacts the lives of children. Recipients may apply for a second year of funding.


Dr. Bonnie L. Shapiro Distinguished Faculty Achievement Graduate Scholarship

Value: $1,000
Application deadline: February1

The Dr. Bonnie L. Shapiro Distinguished Faculty Achievement Graduate Scholarship is open to thesis-based students in Education, with a focus on one of: science education, teacher education, environmental education, curriculum inquiry or interpretive studies in education.

Students must be enrolled full-time in a thesis-based program leading to a Master’s or doctoral degree in the Graduate Division of Educational Research at the University of Calgary. Master’s applicants must be in the second year of a thesis-based program; PhD or EdD applicants must have completed the candidacy examination process.


Ves Thomas Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2,000

The Ves Thomas Memorial Scholarship is open to thesis-based students who are studying in the area of language education. GDER will recommend a recipient.


Sharon Aikenhead Waugh Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2,000
No application

The Sharon Aikenhead Waugh Memorial Scholarship is open to thesis-based students who have completed at least two graduate courses and are preparing a thesis with an emphasis on Language Arts Education. The award is based primarily on academic standing and the quality of the research proposal.
