Open Studies Students

This page is intended for students interested in EDER courses only. Other inquiries should be directed to Enrolment Services.

Information for Open Studies Students

At the University of Calgary, an Open Studies student is a student who is not admitted to a program leading to a degree or diploma, i.e. Master of Education (MEd), but who is permitted to register in credit courses.

Normally only a person holding a degree may register as an Open Studies student in graduate level credit courses. Transcripts will be evaluated and a minimum GPA of 3.00 must be attained over the last 10 full course equivalents in your last degree in order to pursue course work. This GPA requirement must be maintained throughout the duration of course work at the graduate level.

In GDER, in-program graduate students have registration priority; however, Open Studies students may register if space is available in requested courses. Please note that class enrolments are limited to ensure reasonable class sizes.

Open Studies applicants must get approval from the course instructor or the department to take all graduate level courses; therefore, the Open Studies Application and Registration from must be submitted to the Graduate Division of Educational Research.
