Overview:
This course is intended to introduce students to the loose array of approaches to educational inquiry gathered under the term "qualitative research" that are not grounded in (positivist) science, hence the name "interpretive" as opposed to qualitative. As such the course functions as an introduction to interpretive work within established qualitative traditions like ethnography, narrative inquiry, phenomenology, hermeneutics and feminism. It is hoped that through careful reading and vigorous discussion students will develop a rudimentary understanding of the various approaches to interpretive educational inquiry.
Note: Not open to students with credit in EDCI 603 or EDER 699.01.
