Requests to transfer from PhD to EdD or the EdD to the PhD must be considered by the GDER Admissions Committee on an exceptional basis under the following conditions:
Recommendation for a transfer from the MA/MSc to MEd degree program or from MEd to MA/MSc degree program may be given within the first two years in program when the student's progress in the original program has been satisfactory, and when there is sufficient overall teaching and supervisory capacity within GDER to accommodate the program change.
The student will be required to complete a Graduate Change of Program form, as well as to write a letter outlining the reason for the proposed change of program and present this and, in the case of a request to shift from the MEd to MA/MSc degree program, a research proposal (recommended minimum of five pages) to the GDER office.
The proposal for program change will normally be brought to the next GDER Admissions Committee meeting for a decision at the same time as other applications for admission to degree programs are considered (February 1 deadline each year in the case of MA/MSc; February 1 and August 15 in the case of MEd).
Please note that there may be fee implications with respect to a program transfer.

Transfer from one specialization to another within GDER is possible. A written request must be submitted to the GDER office. Transfers are possible only if there is sufficient overall supervisory capacity in the requested specialization. Students within the EdD distance program should consult with the Specialization Coordinator.
