The Higher Education Leadership specialization has evolved from the Higher Education Administration specialization, to reflect current research and practices in the field of Higher Education. Students currently in-program will be given the opportunity to choose either specialization name; new applicants will apply to Higher Education Leadership.
This specialization is designed for graduate students who would like to continue their careers as leaders, administrators, and academics in this field. The program specializes in the study of colleges, universities and other post-secondary institutions, and the policies, practices and issues connected to these institutions, and the cultures and societies in which they operate.
This program encourages students to draw upon and build on knowledge and experiences related to their professional work, while also requiring students to develop strong research skills and a familiarity with evidence-based decision-making. While grounded in topics related to Higher Education systems in Canada, the program also provides opportunities to explore the internationalization and globalization of higher education.
This online program is compatible with the busy lifestyles of professionals in higher education who may continue to work in their communities or institutions while developing new leadership skills, engaging in scholarly discourse, and conducting research.
